Same-day CEREC crowns make it possible to restore a damaged tooth in just one day. Traditionally, it could take a few weeks for a custom crown to be ready. With same-day technology a custom crown can be fabricated in the office while you wait. There is no need to return at a later day. You can walk out of the office that same day with your tooth fully restored. Dr. Garrett Hayashi can strengthen and restore your damaged tooth with same-day CEREC crowns at our office in Honolulu.

CEREC Technology

CEREC involves the use of both computer aided design (CAD) and computer aided manufacturing (CAM) technology. This technology makes it possible to generate a digital 3D model of the teeth rather than having to create a physical mold. The digital model is transferred to a milling machine, which then fabricates a custom ceramic crown based on the 3D image. It only takes the machine a few minutes to create the crown. Afterward, the crown is ready to be bonded in place over the damaged tooth.

Same-Day Crowns vs. Traditional Crowns

Whether restoring a tooth with a same-day CEREC crown or a traditional dental crown, the final results are ultimately the same. With a crown in place, a damaged tooth will be made stronger, biting and chewing functions will be restored, and the tooth will be protect against further wear and tear. A significant difference between the two types of crowns is time.

It can take multiple appointments and several weeks to restore a damaged tooth with a traditional dental crown. A physical mold must be taken of the teeth and then sent away to a dental lab where a crown will be custom made based on the mold. Once the crown has been created, it needs to be sent back to the dentist’s office. This entire process can take a few weeks. The patient then needs to return to the dental office to have the crown permanently bonded in place.

Same-day CEREC crowns eliminate all the waiting, as well as the need for multiple appointments. The 3D digital imaging software utilized by CEREC technology also means there is no need to create messy physical mold, which can cause discomfort for patients who find it difficult to breathe or who have a sensitive gag reflex. The skilled dentist at our office in Honolulu can create CEREC crowns to restore your teeth quickly and comfortably.
